What We Believe

Churches often interpret the Bible in different ways on various topics, but for twenty centuries, there have always been churches that have held onto the essentials of the orthodox Christian faith.

We agree with Rupertus Meldenius, who said, “In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity.” In other words, we need to nail down and agree on the essential orthodox beliefs that make Christianity what it is. Then, we have the liberty to disagree about secondary, non-essential issues. And in all of our beliefs, we will love those with whom we might disagree.

Essentials – We consider these to be core, foundational beliefs…

THE BIBLE

The Bible is the perfect Word of God which was written by God through man, without error, and is the final authority in all things. It is the basis of our faith and the greatest way in which we can hear from God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21

GOD

There is one God, eternally existing in three persons called The Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), each possessing individual characteristics but all possessing the same deity and power.
Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:33; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 1:17

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the only Son of God The Father, the second person of the Trinity. He lived a perfect and sinless life on earth and voluntarily died on behalf of humanity so that we could have a relationship with God and spend eternity with him in heaven. Salvation (the way to God) is only found through Jesus Christ.
John 3:16; John 14:6; 1 Timothy 2:5; Acts 4:11-12; Isaiah 53:5

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He lives in every believer from the moment of salvation and he provides Christians with the power to walk in obedience to God in the midst of a broken world. The Holy Spirit trains, equips, teaches, empowers, and guides each genuine believer.
John 14:26; Romans 8:26; Isaiah 11:2; Acts 1:8; Romans 15:13

MAN

Man is made in the image of God, created by God to have a relationship with him. Humans are born sinful and far away from God because of our own disobedience. We are incapable of repairing the relationship on our own and are in desperate need of the free gift of salvation, which is offered to everyone.
Genesis 1:26; Isaiah 43:7; Genesis 2:7; Job 33:4; 1 Corinthians 6:20; Romans 3:23

THE CHURCH

The Church is a place to grow together in our pursuit of who God is. We believe the Church is one of the most important things a believer can pour themselves into. God is FOR the Church and works powerfully THROUGH the church. It’s not a building or a place to just attend, the church is the people.
Hebrews 10:24-25; Ephesians 2:20-22; Romans 12:5; Ephesians 1:22; Ephesians 4:16
